Vibration analysis for machine monitoring – Level 2 (ISO 18436-2)

Prepare employees involved in machine vibration monitoring and diagnostics for ISO 18436-2 Level 2 certification.

Training Overview

Learning Objectives

  • Perform vibration measurements;
  • Analyze and interpret vibration measurements;
  • Evaluate vibration levels;
  • Diagnose faults in rotating machinery.

Teaching Methods

  • Presentations may include videos, 3D animators, and a PC simulator. Sharing experience with trainees.

Targeted Skills

  • Perform single-channel vibration measurements of industrial machinery and basic vibration analysis, with or without phase trigger signals, in accordance with established and recognized operating procedures.

Assessment Methods

  • Multiple-Choice Questionnaire (MCQ)

Trainer Profile

  • Technical expert trainer in the field of vibration analysis and also ISO18436-2 CAT III or CAT IV certified.

Personnel Relevant

  • Engineers and technicians involved in the Machine Monitoring

Prerequisites

  • Trainees must have all the knowledge and skills required for Level 1. A minimum of 18 months of practical experience is required to validate the certification.

Training Program

Download the ISO18436-2 CAT I, II, III, and IV course

  • Reviews of maintenance strategies and machine monitoring techniques.
  • Principles of vibration (vocabulary and physical quantities).
  • Data acquisition (instrumentation, measurement dynamics, sampling frequency).
  • Time domain analysis.
  • Spectral analysis.
  • Signal processing (sampling, resolution, overlap, windowing, filtering, averaging, dynamics).
  • Fault diagnosis (unbalance, misalignment, bearing faults, motor faults, backlash, critical speed, gearbox faults, etc.).
  • Corrective actions (alignment, balancing).
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment (motors, pumps, fans, gearboxes, etc.).
  • Natural frequencies and resonances.
  • Vibration control and acceptance testing.
  • ISO standardization and monitoring.
  • Machine condition monitoring report and determination of fault severity.
  • Case studies illustrated by signal analysis from machine databases.

Option: certification exam (duration: 3 hours, afternoon of the last day). An ID card is required.

Cetim and Fluke are the French training partners certified by Mobius Institute.

For sessions hosted in online classrooms

Principle

  • Online training is delivered “live” by a trainer who is present at all times. Trainers have received specific training in facilitating a virtual classroom. They offer frequent interactions, exercises, and practical exchanges to encourage participant engagement and skill development.
  • The facilitator uses Classilio Via or Teams software, and group sizes are generally 6 to 8 participants.
  • The connection link to the virtual classroom will be sent to you a few days before the start of the training.

Equipment Required

  • A computer (Mac, PC) or tablet, preferably equipped with a webcam, microphone, speaker, or preferably a headset.
  • An internet connection (ADSL, fiber optic – wired recommended) allowing the use of voice and video (make sure that the web access you will be using allows video connections, including that the ports are not blocked by your server).
  • A valid email address that can be used during the session.
  • A direct phone line or mobile number so you can be reached quickly during the session in case of technical issues.
