Failure analysis of polymer and composite parts

Learn to identify different forms of corrosion and the appropriate remedies to better limit its consequences in the design and use of equipment.

Training Overview

Learning Objectives

  • Apply the failure analysis methodology
  • Identify the analysis methods that can be used
  • Initiate an analysis of the failure mode of a part

Learning Methods

  • Quizzes and case studies.

Targeted Skills

  • Apply the failure analysis approach to cases encountered in your company
Identify the analysis methods or tools that can be used to trace the causes of failures and their purpose

Assessment Methods

  • Quiz

Trainer Profile

  • Expert technical trainers in the field, working on consulting and technical assistance projects in companies.

Personnel concerned

  • Engineers and technicians in quality control, manufacturing, or maintenance.

Training Program

Module 1: Materials and Processes

  • Review of materials, their composition, and their transformation processes
  • Review of structure/property relationships
  • Main defects encountered

Module 2: Approach used in failure analysis

  • Preliminary investigation
  • Investigation phases according to initial hypotheses

Module 3: Principles and applications of non-destructive testing in the context of expertise

  • Types of testing, detectable defects (radiography, ultrasound, acoustic emission, thermography, etc.)

Module 4: Characterization methods Physicochemical Characterization

  • Review of the main physicochemical characterization methods used in failure analysis
  • Important characteristics to measure and associated technique(s)

Module 5: Mechanical Calculation and Characterization

  • Main mechanical characterization methods used in failure analysis
  • Possibilities offered by calculation in expert assessment

Module 6: Fractographic Analysis

  • Concepts of Polymer and Composite Fracture
  • Approach applied to analyze a part failure
  • Main characteristic events of polymer and composite failure

Module 7: Application to a Real-Life Case

  • Example of application to A case study (application of the approach, consideration of methods to use to trace the causes of failures)

How the virtual classroom works

Principle

  • Online training is delivered “live” by a trainer who is present at all times. Trainers have received specific training in facilitating a virtual classroom. They offer frequent interactions, exercises, and practical exchanges to encourage participant engagement and skill development.
  • The facilitator uses Classilio Via or Teams software, and group sizes are generally 6 to 8 participants.
  • The connection link to the virtual classroom will be sent to you a few days before the start of the training.

Equipment Required

  • A computer (Mac, PC) or tablet, preferably equipped with a webcam, microphone, speaker, or preferably a headset.
  • An internet connection (ADSL, fiber optic – wired recommended) allowing the use of voice and video (make sure that the web access you will be using allows video connections, including that the ports are not blocked by your server).
  • A valid email address that can be used during the session.
  • A direct phone line or mobile number so you can be reached quickly during the session in case of technical issues.
